As the holidays are upon us, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season. Right here in Burlington, there is much to be thankful for. This is ever so apparent at this time of year.
As many may know, the Centre Block of Parliament is closing this week for a ten year renovation. It was an incredible final sitting week as Bill C-76, the Elections Modernization Act, was given Royal Assent, becoming law. This legislation will make voting more accessible for all Canadians. As the sponsor of this legislation it was a fantastic way to end the year in Ottawa.
I personally believe that the unofficial kickoff of the holiday season in Burlington is the Gift of Giving Back Food Drive, which this year set a record for most food collected. This drive engages our community into the giving spirit and stimulates a shift in all of us to think about others. From this point, and for the rest of the holiday season, the countless toy drives and community dinners that take place truly foster a sense of community in all of us, where we are able to break bread with our neighbours and learn more about those who live right next door.
